If you have been wanting to try something new, whether it’s a hobby, brand new adventure, or your own business, I have a question… What are you waiting for?
I’m currently trying to step out of my comfort zone and not hold myself back from trying new things. I tend to sike myself out due to self doubt, social anxiety and procrastination. So this post is some tough love to myself just as much as it is to you.
So like the iconic Gwen Stefani said, “What you waiting for?? Take a chance you stupid ho!”
You are the only one holding yourself back.
I understand that there are circumstances in our lives that are out of our control. Many of us are priveleged enough to even be able to pursue our true passions and dreams. So if you’re able to pursue a hobby, passion, or whatever it is then WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?? Sorry I yelled, but be honest with yourself; if you don’t have anything out of your control stopping you then you’re the one holding yourself back. Don’t even say you don’t have enough time. If you want to accomplish your goals or try something new you have to make the time.
Reflect on this real quick. Are you afraid of failure, or success? Do you not believe in yourself? Are you too concerned about what others think? Do you lack discipline? How is your mental health? What habits, thought patterns or people are keeping you stuck? Do you not know where to start? Maybe journaling about these questions will help.
You are more capable than you think.
I don’t care what you say, you can achieve your goals. It’s up to you to show up everyday for yourself and make the choices that benefit you. Make the decision to practice healthier habits and self care. Improving your mental health and relationship with yourself will naturally make you have more energy and belief in yourself. You won’t get different results by making the same mistakes and practicing unhealthy habits. It’s hard to become more disciplined if you aren’t already naturally that way but just take it slow. Honestly, I’m still struggling with self discipline but I remind myself why I’m trying to be better; for myself. You don’t have to be perfect and you don’t have to be perfect at what you do. Just show up and take the action, you can do it.
Stop letting fear be the reason why you don’t follow through. What is the worst that can happen? So what if you “fail”? What does it even mean to fail anyways? How can you fail when you come out of the situation with new experiences and lessons? And who gives a fuck if other people see you “fail”? People will always have something to say whether you’re doing good or bad. Those people saying things are envious of that fact that they aren’t brave enough to put themselves out there. Remember: What other people think of you is none of your business.
You are 1 of 1.
Be authentically you and you will always have something unique to offer. No one else can do it like you because there is no other you!
Just start.
Once you decide to actually start working toward your goal, you’ll gain clarity of what steps you need to take. With trying anything new, you have to stop and make the time to do the research. There are so many resources you can find online if you just take the time for it. Youtube and Google are your best friends. Straight up type in the search bar, “how to start _____” , “where to go for _____” , “courses for _____”. Go to amazon and buy the supplies you need. Just start. We are blessed to have the internet so use it! Some things may cost money but I believe it’s totally worth it to invest in yourself and your goals. There are many affordable options, you just have to keep searching. Don’t be discouraged by the price of the first course/class you find. After researching about your hobby/venture, you will see what it really entails and then you can decide if you want to pursue it.
Trust the process.
You won’t be good in the beginning, but that’s expected. You’re being too hard on yourself if you expect yourself to be good at everything at the first try. It’s just not realistic. Many people give up once they realize it’s harder than they thought. Ofcourse it’s harder than you thought. Nothing is as simple as it seems. There’s always more to it. Trial and error is just part of the process. You’re only selling yourself short by not challenging yourself. How do you expect to grow and get better? If it turns out that it’s just not for you, then that’s fine. Atleast you can look back on it with pride knowing that you had the courage to try something new.
Switch your perspective.
Change, “What if it goes wrong?” to “What if it goes right and even better than I could imagine?”. Would you tell your friend not to try out a hobby they’re interested in? You have to be your own hypeman because no one else is going to be there everyday to hold you accountable. Believe in yourself just like you would believe in someone else. Don’t define yourself by the negative thoughts that make you doubt your abilities. Those thoughts are not real, I like to say those thoughts are just my anxiety talking. Choose to give yourself the benefit of the doubt. Forget about being logical and realistic when it comes to whether you can achieve something or not. With consistency and practice you can become skilled. Plus, there are courses for everything nowadays. Just go for it. What are you waiting for??
I wish you the bestest luck on whatever new adventure/project/goal awaits you! I believe in you!
Lastly, thank you for taking your time to read my post, I really appreciate it. Have a great day/night! <3
